Birthmother’s Day and Mother’s Day can add up to a very difficult weekend for birthmothers, and spending it in community with people who understand that can help, which is why the On Your Feet (OYF) Foundation hosts a Birthmother’s Day gathering every year. This year’s hosts, Hope O. Helder and Erika Gonzales, are well-known in the OYF community: they both sit on our Board, and both have shared their wisdom and insights into the birthparent experience at Activism in Adoption.

Erika is a California native and birthmother specializing in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention. Hope is a passionate advocate for birthmothers’ rights, diversity, and women’s empowerment, as well as the author of Finding Hope: A Birthmother’s Journey into the Light, a best-selling memoir that chronicles her journey as a birthmother navigating the complexities of open adoption.
