National Indian Child Welfare Association
The National Indian Child Welfare Association (NICWA) is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the safety, health, and cultural identity of American Indian and Alaska Native children and families. They advocate for and uphold the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), which protects Native children from removal from their families and communities. NICWA provides training and technical assistance to tribes and child welfare workers, convenes the nation's largest annual Native child welfare conference (Protecting Our Children), and works to decolonize child welfare systems through culturally grounded, Tribal-led approaches.
