DESCRIPTION:For WI caregivers who are parenting youth with a high level of need due to complex trauma histories related to adoption or out-of-home care. \n\n\n\n\nAdoptive\, Kinship\, Reunified\, Foster\, & Guardianship parents and caregivers: Please join us for a connected parenting virtual support group just for you! This group is especially for parents/caregivers who are looking for: \n–A place to be seen\, heard\, and supported from other attendees who understand similar parenting challenges; \n–More brain based\, connection-focused parenting support; and \n-Helpful ideas and resources from the group’s facilitators. \nThe group meets on the 3rd Monday of each month from noon (12:00 pm) – 1:00 pm. There will be monthly focus areas for discussion and/or guest speakers to support ongoing learning\, but always with plenty of time for connection and support. Please register early as group size is limited. \nThis group is facilitated by WIFCC Case Manager Allison Kunkel MS\, APSW and Support Specialist Val Zegers. DESCRIPTION:Schools are tasked not only with educating and socializing children\, but also with providing safety\, consistency in relationships\, and identifying resources to address a variety of needs outside of academic functioning. Children growing up in adoptive\, foster\, kinship\, and guardianship families may have additional impacts on their cognitive and emotional abilities due to the trauma and loss they have experienced. \nThis unique population is more prevalent than school professionals may think\, and they need to be equipped with the right resources to support academic success. This webinar will feature tools and strategies for applying trauma-informed and adoption/permanency-competent approaches applicable for school settings. \nLearning Objectives:\n\nIdentify how trauma and loss impact students’ emotional regulation\, behavior\, and academic functioning.\nRecognize common school-based manifestations of grief\, traumatic stress\, and loss.\nApply permanency-focused and trauma-informed strategies to support safety\, connection\, and emotional processing in school settings.\n\nREGISTER \n

DESCRIPTION:The impact of early childhood trauma on a child’s developing brain is profound\, especially the prefrontal cortex\, which includes neural pathways responsible for thinking\, behavioral\, and emotional regulation. When children experience trauma\, their brains frequently remain in a state of heightened alert\, prioritizing survival over the complex processing required for learning\, socializing\, and daily tasks. \nThis webinar will: \n\nExplore the intersection of trauma and executive functioning\, providing a look at how trauma alters brain architecture\nIdentify what is underneath trauma-informed behaviors that are often mislabeled as defiance\, laziness\, or lack of\nmotivation\nShare practical support strategies\n\nBy shifting our lens from “what is wrong with this child” to “what has happened to and is right with this child\,” we can move toward more compassionate\, effective\, and sustainable strategies that help children feel supported\, capable\, and empowered. \nAbout the Presenter: \nDr. Angela Marx is a licensed clinical psychologist with 20 years of experience supporting children\, families\, and neurodivergent individuals through direct support\, case management\, behavioral support\, and crisis response. She is the founder of Place of Mind LLC\, specializing in psychological assessment and mental health support for neurodivergent individuals. \nLicensed foster parents will receive 1.5 training credits for participation in this webinar.
